Qi Baishi is acknowledged as one of the leading Chinese artists of the early twentieth century. In paintings of shrimp, he employs a different brush technique for each part of the creature’s body. The ink tone varies from one shrimp to another depending on its location and the reflection of light on the water. Shrimp were a favorite subject matter of Qi Bashi.
