Visiting with a Group

The Birmingham Museum of Art offers free guided and self-guided tours of its collections and special exhibitions for youth and adults. Guided tours are led by Museum Teaching Fellows, specially trained college students from Birmingham area colleges and universities.

BMA tour offerings are organized into seasons, with reduced offerings during the summer. You can currently book for both Summer and Fall 2024. Spring 2025 booking will open in November.

Summer Guided Tours

Hour-long guided tours for groups up to 45  are available on:

  • Tuesdays at 10:00am
  • Wednesdays at 9:30am & 11:30am

Fall Guided Tours

Hour-long guided tours are available throughout the week starting at 10:00am:

  • Group tours for up to 30 are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays
  • Group tours for up to 45 are available on Wednesdays and Fridays
  • Group tours for up to 60 are available on Fridays

Self-Guided Tours

Want direction but rather explore the galleries with your group on your own? We have created a wide array of print and digital activities to maximize your visit at the Museum.

  • These tours can accommodate up to 120 on any open Museum day

Tours for all ages are available for groups up to 45 on Tuesdays at 10:00am and Wednesdays at 9:30am and 11:30am.

Adults

    • Group tours for up to 40 are available on Tuesdays (10:00am), Thursdays (10:00am), Saturdays (11:00am), and Sundays (3:00pm)

Self-Guided Tours

Tuesday through Sunday 10:00 am to 4:30 pm

 

We have developed teacher-led gallery experiences, scavenger hunts, and bingo cards to guide you through the galleries in different ways. Be sure to also check out our digital smartguide with behind-the-scenes video and audio. Group registration is required for groups over 15 people.
