Commemorative Mug

This mug was designed to commemorate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, held at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947. Richard Guyatt’s work for the souvenir market was highly praised and helped Wedgwood become a leading producer of commemorative wares.

Oval blue jasper cameo with white relief of sacrificial figure, set in cut steel mount, metal components possibly by Matthew Boulton. the cut steel shows multi facets designed to imitate gemstones
Set of four small silver salts, each canoe-shaped and double bellied, with reeded edge and two delicately scrolled handles, resting on short stem and oval foot likewise with reeded edge, the interior covered with a light gilt wash, on one side of the main body an engraved crest that possibly includes the Prince of Wales feathers.
Round dark blue jasper medallion with white relief profile portrait of King George III (1738-1820) facing right. He is shown in profile wearing a laurel wreath like a Roman Emperor. He was married to Queen Charlotte after whom Wedgwood's Queen's ware was so named in her honour.
Small, oblong, octagonal sugar box of white porcelain with gilding, painted with small reserves on the sides with Chinoiserie scenes inside (a Chinese figure preparing tea on one side and a Chinese figure with a bird and cage on the other), "indianische Blumen" are scattered over the rest of the box, the cover likewise painted with Chinese figures, one with bells, the other preparing tea, with wide gilt and scrollwork borders as well as a Chinese-inspired floral border, the finial in the shape of a pagoda.
