Clay Days at the BMA // Pop-Up Maker Stations

PriceFree
February 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Bring the whole family out for a hands on art experience at the BMA! Clay Days at the BMA continues Saturday with a day of art-making alongside ceramicists Larry Allen and Meghan Howell. Make your own clay works to take home at one of our pop-up maker stations! Free to the public, clay making is a fun way to celebrate ceramics while getting your hands a little dirty with two different techniques.

Drawing inspiration from Allen’s work, learn about the sgraffito technique and apply it hands-on to decorate your own clay creation!  Ceramicist Meghan Howell will lead a workshop exploring the simple and pre-historic clay construction technique of coiling. Explore this technique for yourself, and learn how the ancient Japanese Jamon culture used this basic coiling method to make beautiful and elaborate vessels.

At 11am, join BMA’s Curator of Decorative Arts, Dr. Anne Forschler for a special tour of the Museum, highlighting the BMA’s incredible collection of ceramics from around the world.
