A Woman’s Place: Definitions of African American Womanhood

This is a painting of an African American woman standing in an art gallery looking at abstract paintings and sculptures. Her back is to the viewer. She has a short, black bob, a white short sleeve shirt tucked into a white skirt that hits at her knees. She is putting her weight on her left hip. She holds what looks like to be a museum guide or a newspaper in her left hand. The walls of the gallery are painted a robins egg blue. The artist's signature is in red and located in the bottom right corner of the painting.
