Study of a African-American farm worker
This black and white photograph represents apartments in San Francisco. Laundry hangs in front of the apartments. There are stairs leading from the bottom center to the center right. The white laundry on the clotheslines makes two diagonals, one begins in the bottom of the frame and extends up the right. The other begins in the top right corner of the bottom left and extends up and to the left. In the background are large apartment buildings iwth the highest point in the top right.

The water appears to ripple outward from this group of three figures, and there is a staff or stick emerging from the water to the right of the group. The background of the painting is heavily wooded, and there is a tree represented on the banks behind the group of figures in the water.
