Small oval enameled copper box, the ground emerald green and the lid painted in a gold-framed reserve with the portrait of a woman with roses in her hair, on either side of her are simple blue floral elements.

Oval medallion with relief profile of Lord Samuel Hood (1724-1816), British Admiral, Born in Dorset, Entering the Navy in 1741; promoted post captain in 1759; commissioner of Portland dockyard 1778; served with Lord Rodney in the West Indies, 1780-1783, for which he was promoted commander-in-chief. In his actions in the West Indies against the French commander, de Grasse, Hood showed himself a masterly tactician. He stood for Parliament in 1784 against Fox for Westminster and was elected.
