Soup Plate, China, porcelain with underglaze blue and overglaze enamel colors

Soup Plate

Qing dynasty (1644-1912), About 1785-1790

The body and underglaze blue of this plate were produced in Jingdezhen, while the elegant central floral basket motif was probably added later in Guangzhou. The Fitzhugh pattern border of this plate, an underglaze-blue band of butterflies, frets and a hexagonal cell-diaper, was developed at Jingdezhen during the 1780s.
