Includes caption "Clinton, Tenn., Sept. 1--Negro Tourist Attacked--An unidentified youth last night used one of his shoes to add further damage to an out-of-state car carrying Negroes which was attacked by an angry mob. The mob, fired by a speech by Asa E. Carter, Birmingham, Ala., a White Citizens Council leader, stoned and bounced at least 6 autos bearing Negroes. The tire on this car was also flattened. The Clinton High School was integrated this week and has been the scene of minor violence. The driver of this car ran to police. (AP Wirephoto)"
Hand-carved wooden frame in the so-called "whirlwind" pattern. According to Virginia Couse Leavitt, the artist's granddaughter, his earliest frame design "incorporates a scroll (whirlwind) at the center of each side, from which a barbed feather motif extends to the corners."
