Neolithic figurative celt. Found in Alabama on the Coosa River near Crotwell and Leeds THIS OBJECT HAS INCORRECT #, ACTUAL PIECE WAS RETURNED FROM TANNEHILL APRIL 2014.
The totemic design is well done but rather recent. The paint is vermilion and ball bluing blue. Totemic designs occupy two sides and a design (see card) is on each of the other sides. The box is of red cedar, pegged side and bottom. New looking almost.
Truncated cone shape, the flat top showing the 4 wide (5/8") strips of bark used as a foundation. The weaving is double, the inside much coarser than the outside.
Halibut hook carving made of yew wood to represent the head and tail of an otter, the tail being shown by five incised lines. The piece is somewhat weathered. In the line hole were a wood plug and fragments of a spruce root line so the hook is an old-timer.
