Cape Iro is a scenic spot along the Japanese seacoast on what is known as the Tokaido Highway. During the Edo period (1615-1868) the Tokaido was the main link between the ancient capital of Kyoto and the new capital of Edo (Tokyo). Series of prints helped popularize the various stops along the way as tourist destinations.
