Tall, heavy vase of black basalt with long narrow cylindrical foot with impressed geometric motifs around the middle created by the roulette wheel, the upper body bowl shaped with a wide indented band around the middle and narrower opening at top, the interior covered with a red-maroon colored glaze.
Oval blue jasper medallion with white relief profile portrait of Jean Le Rond D'Alembert (1717-1783) Known mostly for his advances in mathematics and his association with Denis Diderot in the creation of the famous Encylopedie, but his other works were numerous and influential.

Creamware teapot molded and shaped to resemble a tree stump, with curved branch handle and spout, in high relief on one side a seated couple in a landscape [Hebe and her lover], the man offering a nest full of eggs to the woman in his outstretched left hand, above them an unrolled scroll with the words FAIR HEBE and additional illegible script, on the other side the portrait medallion of a man [William Shenstone] below the name SHENSTONE and two cherubs underneath placing laurel and acanthus leaves on a wreath surrounding the medallion, overall highlighted with green, blue and brown glazes on cream, the conforming flat cover with leaf and branch finial.
