The Education Department provides resources for teachers to enhance their curriculum, including:
Hands-On Culture Cases
Bring the BMA to your classroom! The Birmingham Museum of Art’s Culture Case program is a fun and exciting way to deliver arts and culture to your students. Our popular resource kits are filled with culturally-specific, tactile materials representing diverse regions, customs, and time periods from around the globe, including our home state.
Using art to expand and inspire everyday teaching in the classroom, our cases contain pottery, jewelry, clothing, instruments, videos, and much more. Each case also includes guided questions, lesson plans, and curriculum connections for teachers to bridge each culture to Alabama Course of Study Standards. Offer your students a fun, hands-on experience with art, history, and culture.
Culture Cases Topics Include:
Alabama Folk Art
Ancient Mexico and Central America
Ancient South America
Northwest, Southwest, and Plains Native American art
Southeastern Native American art
The West: Crossroads of Culture
Culture Cases are available for a two-week check out. Each check out is free. For more information on the BMA’s Culture Case program or to reserve a case, contact the Education Department at firstname.lastname@example.org or 205-254-2571.
