As a son of this city, I’ve always seen Birmingham as a magical, beautiful place. From our hidden gems to areas you see on a daily ride through the Magic City, there are so many treasures that make us proud to call this place home. That’s why I’m so appreciative of all the entries for the Birmingham Photo Challenge. They capture all the people and places that define us—the heartbeat of our city.
–The Honorable Randall L. Woodfin, 30th Mayor of the City of Birmingham

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Birmingham’s founding, Mayor Randall L. Woodfin launched “The Birmingham View Photo Challenge.” Open to everyone, participants were asked to submit Birmingham photos in four distinct categories: Events in Birmingham; Cityscapes and Landscapes; Birmingham Landmarks; and People. Photos had to be taken in Birmingham between 2019 and 2021, with a cell phone or professional camera. The photographs were then judged by a panel and the winning entries were installed as a part of the exhibition. The works are currently on display in the paneled gallery off of the first floor Bohorfoush hallway.

Congratulations to all the contestants whose works were selected for this exhibition, and thank you to everyone who participated in this visual celebration of the Magic City.
