Patrick Cather is a voracious collector. His gifts have extensively grown the BMA’s art and archival collections, shaping our holdings of Alabama art and artists. More recently, he has also expanded the Clarence B. Hanson, Jr. Library and Archives’ collection related to the museum’s history as well as our holdings of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and/or questioning (LGBTQ+) art, particularly gay art. This installation highlights pieces from Cather’s LGBTQ+ art gifts, showcasing ten new additions to the collection.

This focused installation of ten works from the permanent collection is on view in the American gallery.
