The Transformative Nature of Public Art

PriceFree
March 16, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

Blank Space Bham is a women-led, Birmingham-based social venture that works to use public art to reclaim space to strengthen communities, foster creativity, and advocate for the (re)development of inclusive urban environments. Blank Space Founder Meghan McCollum is joined by Hallie Ringle, Hugh Kaul Curator of Contemporary Art, for an ArtBreak exploring public art through the lens of the recent BMA initiative, Wall to Wall. Wall to Wall commissions established or emerging contemporary artists to create site-specific works in the Main Lobby. This ArtBreak explores the initiative’s connection with the ways Blank Space currently uses public art as a catalyst for social change, community building, and for the benefit of our collective experience.

Join us for ArtBreak each month where Museum curators and community partners lead visitors on a 30-minute exploration in our galleries.

ArtBreaks are presented in honor of Joyce Benington’s twenty five years as a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art. These programs, which bring curators, educators, artists, and creatives in conversation with the Museum‘s collection and exhibitions, have been generously funded by Joyce’s friends, fellow docents, and members of the Art Focus group, which Joyce has guided through the BMA for nearly two decades.
