“The Avatar of Vishnu, The Man-Lion Narasimha Destroying the Demon Hiranyakashipu”

March 16, 1 - 1:30pm

This is a light creme colored sandstone sculpture of man with a lion's head tearing apart the stomach of a human-like figure. There is a lotus blossom halo behind the lions head to alert the viewer that it is actually a god.

Curious about works of art that aren’t always included on a BMA tour? Take a DeTour with us on select Sundays, where we’ll spend 30 minutes focusing on a work of art that is off the beaten path.

This Sunday, drop by and join BMA Teaching Fellow Kiera Poole as they facilitate a discussion on The Avatar of Vishnu, The Man-Lion Narasimha Destroying the Demon Hiranyakashipu in the South and Southeast Asian gallery.

Meet Kiera in the Main Lobby on the First Floor at 1:00 pm.
