Meet the Members: Marks of Intention

Join us for a members-only social and behind-the-scenes tour to celebrate Marks of Intention, the reinstallation of our contemporary gallery featuring art from the BMA’s permanent collection.
The event will begin with a brief welcome from Chantal Drake, the James Milton and Sallie R. Johnson Deputy Director, followed by an introduction to the exhibition by Jade Powers, the Hugh Kaul Curator of Contemporary Art. Together we’ll explore three key themes in the exhibition: the body and portraiture, focusing on how the artist’s hand shapes form and identity; text and storytelling, highlighting the connection between written words and visual elements; and patterning and technique, celebrating the intricate designs and craftsmanship behind each work.
