October 2, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Celebrate Latin culture at the Birmingham Museum of Art during our fifth annual Latin American Heritage Festival. This year’s festival will be a virtual and in-person hybrid program.

Join us in-person for a Salsa music performance by Orquesta MaCuba, a Salsa dance performance and dance workshop with IV Motion, and enjoy Latin music provided by DJ Jorge Ibanez. Swing by to check out these on-site programs and pick up your art kit to complete at home. The art kits include materials to make your own Guatemalan Worry Dolls, Chancay textile straw weaving, and Nazca lines-inspired artworks at home.

Register for your art kit!

In-Person Programs

10am – 2pm // DJ Jorge Ibanez in the Sculpture Garden
11:00am & 1:15pm // Dance Performance and Dance Workshop by IV Motion on the Upper Plaza (Two 30 min slots)
12:00pm & 1:15pm // Orquesta MaCuba Mariachi / Salsa Music Performance on the Upper Plaza (Two 45 min slots)

Please note: our Latin American Heritage Festival will look very different this year as we work to limit the spread of COVID-19. The in-person portion of our program includes performances that will take place outdoors. We ask that visitors continue to wear their masks outdoors, and masks are required inside the Museum. Visitor groups should also keep six feet of distance between other groups, and we have limited our Museum occupancy to 75% to allow for social distancing guidelines.

Each 30 minute Salsa dance workshop is limited to 30 people  (11am slot of 30 people; 1:15 pm slot for 30 people). Register below to reserve your spot, art kits are available while supplies last. Band performance by Orquesta MaCuba will take place at our upper plaza at 12:00pm and 1:15pm.
