Intro to Iron Casting

Join Sloss Furnaces Metal Artists, Virginia Elliott & Ian Skinner, for an introduction to the basic processes used to create cast iron sculpture–patternmaking, mold making, casting and finishing. This engaging 3 hour session includes a pewter pour demo, specialty self-made BMA/Sloss coin, and a scratch block tile design that participants will be able to cast at the Sloss Furnaces Holiday pour on Saturday, December 14, 2024, from 11-4 pm

This class is intended for youth ages 9 and above as well as their families. Limited in capacity to ensure a personalized experience, this workshop series offers participants an opportunity to experience the art form practiced by special exhibition artist John Rhoden, a Birmingham-born metal artist.

Please reserve a seat for each participating family member. Youth participants will need adult supervision during the class even if the adult will not participate.
