Gallery Exploration – Hayward Oubre: Structural Integrity

This is a large wire sculpture of a horse. It is almost life size. the color of the wire is a dark silver metal, almost black. All for of the horse's hooves are on the ground. The head of the horse is looking straight forward and the bushy tail is pointing down. The horses main is formed using small wires formed into squares and goes from the top of its head down to the its shoulders.

Engineer, teacher, and a luminary of American modernism, Hayward Oubre exemplifies how Black Southern artists have helped inform and evolve greater national artistic movements.

This Saturday, join our Museum staff as we explore Oubre, his work, and his legacy in our newest exhibition, Hayward Oubre: Structural Integrity.

Meet in the Main Lobby on the First Floor at 2:30 pm.
