The ReFRAME Lecture: Manjari Sharma – Play through It

PriceFree
March 18, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

For the featured lecture of The (Spring) ReFRAME, join Brooklyn-based artist, Manjari Sharma, for a discussion on her career and her latest exhibition at the BMA, Expanding Darshan: Manjari Sharma, To See and Be Seen. In this artist lecture, Sharma will explore the power of tapping into the potential of our unique experiences and distinguished histories to create works that are accessible and meaningful to a large, diverse audience. As the artist has said, “To create projects that resonate with the “universal,” one must address and acknowledge its powerful relationship to the personal. The inner landscape of the human mind is rich with material that could become our greatest muse. We discover and define who we are by the stories we tell about ourselves.” Exhibition curator, Dr. Katherine Anne Paul, the Virginia and William Spencer III Curator of Asian Art, will facilitate the lecture.

Born in Mumbai, Manjari Sharma is a lens-based artist who has recently transplanted from Brooklyn to L.A. She makes work that is rooted in portraiture addressing the issues of identity, multiculturalism, and personal mythology. She earned a BFA from the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio and a BSC from Sir Vithaldas Thackersey College, Mumbai. Manjari’s work has been recognized, awarded, published and exhibited internationally.
