ArtBreak // Profile of a Young Woman

PriceFree
August 17, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 12:30 pm

Join Erin Croxton, the BMA’s 2020 Goodrich Fellow, and Robert Schindler Ph.D., curator of European art, as they discuss the work Profile of a Young Woman, created by Mino da Fiesole in the mid-1400s. Learn about the efforts taken to uncover the provenance of a bas-relief sculpture currently on view in the European galleries. Provenance research not only verifies an artwork’s authenticity but also aids in telling the rich history of an object. In this discussion, we’ll explore the difficulties that arise when an acquisition’s history is lost.

On the third Tuesday of each month, Museum curators and special guests lead visitors on a 30-minute exploration in the galleries.

ArtBreaks are presented in honor of Joyce Benington’s twenty five years as a docent at the Birmingham Museum of Art. These programs, which bring curators, educators, artists, and creatives into conversation with the Museum’s collection and exhibitions, have been generously funded by Joyce’s friends, fellow docents, and members of the Art Focus group, which Joyce has guided through the BMA for nearly two decades.
