Spread Love: It’s the Birmingham Way! // 5-9pm // Cafe

Join us for a fun and meaningful activity brought to you by Elevators, a local organization that connects communities and organizations. For this Art after 5 the BMA is collaborating with the organization to kick off the inaugural celebration of 205 Day, a homegrown pep rally that celebrates Birmingham’s history, culture, economy, and natural beauty. For this activity, visitors can write positive affirmations on paper hearts, which will then be thoughtfully organized and strung as garlands for them to view. These garlands will be presented to organizations in the community that work with those that need love the most. It’s a fun way to spread the love and show the generosity that Birmingham is known for.

We’re excited to announce that we’ll be giving out limited amounts of free tastings of chocolate dipped oreos from Michelle’s Chocolate Lab, a local maker of crafted sweets based here in Birmingham. But that’s not all — there will also be other decadent options available on their menu for purchase like bar cookies, truffles, chocolate-dipped cheesecake and more! Indulge in the rich and creamy chocolate, perfect for satisfying your sweet tooth and celebrating the month of love.

Hearts for Art // 5-9pm // Museum-wide

Ready to fall in love with art? The Birmingham Museum of Art will once again participate in the Hearts for Art project throughout the month of February.

From February 1 through 14, visitors may pick up paper hearts at the Museum’s front desk and leave them by their favorite works of art while they walk around the galleries. As works of art accumulate ‘likes,’ visitors will be able to see which pieces in our collection are the most beloved. Hearts are available at both Museum entrances.

Share a photo of your artwork crushes with the paper heart on social media and tag #heartsforart and @bhammuseum. We’ll repost some of our favorite shots!

Hearts for Art began seven years ago at the Oakland Museum of California and the Columbus Museum of Art. Since then, museums across the country, including the BMA, have joined in. We can’t wait to see what works are your favorites this year!
