Round, bulbous vase of black basalt on a very narrow, stout foot, with a long neck that has impressed geometric motifs around created by the roulette wheel, and wide opening, the interior covered with a slightly transparent light blue glaze.

Silver hot water jug resting on short stem that tapers to small, round beaded foot accented with bright-cut engraving in a scallops and dot pattern, resting on a square plinth with four ball feet, the plinth decorated with bright-cut engraving comprised of floral elements at each corner with dots in between, the urn-shaped body with a wide band of engraved ovals and dots at the shoulder between an upper and lower band of beading, the neck narrows in the middle, the lower edge likewise engraved with a decorative pattern, the beak-shaped spout edged with beading, the hinged lid with urn finial, with attached ear-shaped walnut handle with thumb rest, the main body under the spout engraved with an oval reserve with crossed leafy branches and a ribbon (left empty).

Oval blue jasper medallion with white relief profile portrait of Gladstone (1809-1898), self-framed. He was a British Liberal and earlier conservative politician. In a career lasting over 60 years, he served as Prime Minister four separate times (1868–74, 1880–85, February–July 1886 and 1892–94), more than any other person, and served as Chancellor of the Exchequer four times. Gladstone was also Britain's oldest Prime Minister; he resigned for the final time when he was 84 years old.
