Purchased by Harry and Nettie Buten, Merion, Pennsylvania, in 1970 [see note 1]; by gift to their son David Buten and his wife Judith, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, prior to 1988 [see note 2]; by gift to the Art Fund, Inc. at the Birmingham Museum of Art in 2018
1. According to the object's catalog card, the Butens purchased the vase from a dealer in Portobello Road in 1970.
2. In 1988, the Buten Museum of Wedgwood was dismantled and the collection was placed on long-term loan at the Nassau County Museum System in Sands Point, Long Island, New York, where it resided until 2008.
