This image is created with black ink on yellowed paper. It shows a long, low building that stretches across the print, overtaken by foliage at the right. The building is divided into two portions. A doorway and window are openings into one portion, and the second portion is accessed by a porch. The building’s roof has sustained damage, and off of the right portion of the building is a stone chimney. Above the building three birds fly.
A vertical composition in which an angular white church with a tall steeple is centrally positioned in front of a deep, narrow valley flanked by dark blue and black mountains. The outer edges of the steeple and ridges of the uppermost mountains are highlighted with an acidic yellow, suggesting an unseen light source beyond the picture plane.
