An elderly lady in blue is seen in profile to the left, working at an embroidery frame before an open French window permitting the glimpse of a park.
Eertvelt was a marine painter. He is seen here in portrait from the waist up. He is turned to the proper left with his head turned, facing almost front. Behind him is a scene of the ocean with a ship and voluptuous clouds. This is from the Gillis Hendricx edition of the Iconography (Icones Principum Virorum Doctorum, Pictorum Chalcographorum Statuorum nec non Amatorum Pictoriae Artis Numero Centum), 1632-44.
