This is from one of three services made for Sir Andrew Lauder (1702-1769), 5th Baronet of Fountainhill of Scotland. Sir Andrew was a prominent government man during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 and is known to have provided services for Charles, Prince of Wales at that time. In 1731 he married his cousin Isabel with whom he had eighteen children.

Tall, footed, bulbous vase of solid white jasper with dark blue jasper dip and applied white and green jasper relief decoration, with a band of ribbon and reed around the edge of the foot, the lower body with stylized acanthus leaves, the main body engine-turned to create blue and white vertical stripes with horizontally applied, molded green straps that together create a basket weave appearance, a band of white bellflowers runs horizontally around the neck, the lip with the same ribbon and reed pattern.

Set of four, tall, sterling silver candlesticks architectural in form and neo-Gothic/neoclassical in style, each with a large, square base decorated with a diaper pattern within which are stylized flowers raised against a stippled ground, the corners are covered with upwardly scrolling acanthus leaves; from the base the stick rests on a fluted foot upon which sits a square pedestal from which extends the actual stick, which is composed of two slender columns at each edge with acanthus leaves at top, all bound by three sets of three bands each; between the columns are quatrefoils; the finial is in the form of a footed urn, the foot with four individual trefoils between acanthus leaves, the urn is also decorated with trefoils and stylized acanthus leaves, and holds a square, removable bobeche with pierced corners and scrollwork; on three of the four bobeches is an engraved crest: an eagle with outstretched wings atop a crown set with feathers.
