This image is created with black ink on paper. In it stands a large classical revival house with a portico and four columns. Five steps lead to the portico, and a double door—with one door open—offers entrance to the house. The house has five bays and a chimney on either side of the roof line. There is a leafy tree in front of the house and one on either side of the house. A path moves through the foreground to the middle ground and the steps to the front door.
This painting represents a cresting wave breaking on a shoreline. A boat rests in shallow water and sand just in front of the breaking wave. Many boats are visible scattered at sail, offshore. Just above the horizon is a brilliantly colored sunsest and a sky with scattered clouds.
