A black and white photograph featuring a dirt road leading up to a steel mill in the background. The steel mill is the Ensley Works steel plant in Birmingham, Alabama. To the left of the dirt road is single story smaller houses, with some larger structures to the end of the road, and one on the right side of the road as well. Power poles also line the road on the left side, leading up to the steel plant. The furnaces of the plant are wider towards the base with much thinner chimneys on the top.

This black and white photograph represents a number of people in an unidentifiable location (possibly a church). The bodies of five figures in the back row are captured, though their heads are outside of the frame of the image. In the front row there are four seated figures, all women. Each woman wears a dress or a top and skirt, and the second from the left—dressed in all white—holds a baby also in white. This woman’s mouth is open. A partial fifth figure in this row can be seen at the right of the image.
