Soup Plate with Armorial Crest and Floral Motifs

China

Qing dynasty (1644-1912), Qianlong period (1736-1795)

During the 18th century it was common for European royalty to order large services of dinnerware from China with their coat of arms forming the decoration. With the double imperial eagles in this coat of arms we know that this soup plate comes from a service for Catherine the Great (1729-1796) of Russia.
