Two wrens are depicted with brown feathers accented by black and white feathers. The lower wren stands on a thin green stem beneath a flowering pink and red plant. The upper bird stands on top of this plant.
This black and white photograph represents an alley surrounded by brick buildings. The building that is seen at the end of the alley has an arched entrance. Emerging from the alley is a middle-aged white woman, carrying something in her left arm, with a full basket hanging from the same arm. A bollard stands in the middle of the alley entrance, and to the right of the bollard, in the lower right corner of the image, is another figure.
The work is dominated by two squares at slanted angles to each other. The square on the left is divided into four uneven quadrants by white paint. The upper left quadrant is dominated primarily by brown paint and the upper right quadrant has a mix of brown, red, black, and white paint. Below, there are two adjacent circles, both a mix of black and white paint and the left circle containing some yellow. The square on the right contains dashes of brown and red paint on the right and a large vertical stroke of white paint on the left. Below the right square is a stroke of green paint with several black lines emerging from it to the left. The background is primarily white with dashes of blue and gray paint throughout.
