The Ayles was a merchant family in London. This and a hexagonal plate (2010.99) are from the same service. The coat of arms is known only from a sketch dated 1737 that was used to order a coach.

This teardrop-shaped custard cup or dessert pot is made from a fine sheet of moulded yellow jasper which has been decorated with a crenellated edge and the ornamentation of a fine white jasper lattice or trellis design. It was made between 1790 and 1800.
Small oval medallion of solid light blue jasperware with white jasper bas relief of the god Mercury in a landscape striding right with his attributes the caduceus in his left hand and a goat or ram symbolizing fertility behind him, set in a brass mount with decorative elements on each side.
Large Staffordshire salt-glazed culinary, or dessert, mold with scalloped and fluted edges, with central press-molded pineapple motif.
Small covered sugar bowl of caneware decorated in the "Nerots" pattern, the bulbous bowl with a central band of stylized green flowers and blue berries with six bright red birds resting on it and six small line-drawn butterflies scattered about, with two short, stout, slightly curved handles, the domed cover with a scalloped edge in blue underglaze enamel with a modified fish scale pattern likewise in blue at the indentations, with ball finial.
