Jesus sits on the side of a well as the Samarian woman stands holding a rope connected to her water jug. Jesus leans towards her in conversation. On the right a group of figures converse with one another as if discussing the scene unfolding before them.
Coeberghe was an architect, painter, and engraver. He is seen here in portrait from the waist up. He leans on a colomn with his right arm and looks out at the viewer. He wears a skullcap and a long jacket. This is from the Gillis Hendricx edition of the Iconography (Icones Principum Virorum Doctorum, Pictorum Chalcographorum Statuorum nec non Amatorum Pictoriae Artis Numero Centum), 1632-44.
