In this round-format, black and white print, a small sailboat pitches among swirling waves. Six figures man the boat, with five rowing and one harpooning a whale at the right of the image. The whale's tale is visible at the upper left of the image, and another boat pitches just behind it while another whale is visible at the upper right. The ship from which both groups are likely whaling is at the top of the composition. At the bottom of the print is a still life that includes implements used in whaling including ropes, spears, harpoons, and a many-pronged hook.
