This etching is created with black ink on paper. The scene looks out over rooftops from a high vantage point toward a cityscape (downtown Birmingham, Alabama). Smoke rises intermittently in the distance, and the sky has some color and a few lines but is fairly clear.
This painting represents an architecturally ornate Gulf Oil gas station with two pumps standing on the street in front of the building and Gulf Oil logos on the facade. The building stands at a spot where two streets meet. Behind the building is blue sky, a gas holder in the upper left corner, and the Birmingham city skyline in the upper right corner. In the foreground is a tree, power poles, and a car. The streets in front of the gas station are lined with streetcar tracks.

Three birds are depicted on a grassy hilltop with mountains populating the background. The bird on the left crouches forward while the two birds on the right stand upright and alert. The bird on the far right is completely white, and the other two birds have white edged wings with black and yellow striping on their bodies. This patterning is more pronounced on the left bird.
