On a thick, rectangular plinth decorated on each side with the Greek key pattern, gilt, the top of the plinth is bronzed, rest two Egyptian sphinxes whose outstretched wings support an oval bowl which has been molded with a raised, pattern of loose ribbons on the sides and underneath with the head of Bacchus surrounded by grapes and leaves, the headdress of each sphinx is gilded and around the edge of the bowl is a band of gilding that extends to the two swan's head handles as well as the gadrooning on the bowl's shoulder, the conforming cover rests on the gilded, beaded edge of the bowl and has a gilded lotus finial.
