A pitcher with a handle in the form an oak tree bough its branches extending to form the lip of the vessel and foliage filled with oak leafs and acorns spreading across the vessel The pitcher commemorates Connecticuts celebrated Charter Oak a pre revolutionary symbol of American independence According to legend in 1687 Connecticuts Royal Charter of 1662 was hidden in hollow within the tree to prevent its confiscation by the English governor general
Vase with slight shoulder and thick short flared rim Multiple glazes consisting of purple green rose and ochre hues give a mottled or marbleized appearance
A mold formed cottage type vase with central cartouche featuring a polychrome domestic genre scene A woman in a pink dress standing at left cranks a serinette French for little canary a small barrel organ used to teach songs to canaries The a birdcage housing the canary hangs above the table upon which rests both the serinette and a blue vase contain pink flowers Beside the table a grey cat sits upon a wooden chair with green upholstery This was also the subject of a 1751 painting by Jean Siméon Chardin 1699 1779 entitled La serinette now at the Louvre
