Oval black basalt medallion with relief profile portrait of Marius facing left (157 BC-86 BC) Gaius Marius was a Roman general and statesman. Holding office of consul and unprecedented seven times during his career. Also noted for his important reforms of Roman armies, authorizing recruitment of landless citizens and reorganizing the structure of legions into separare cohorts. Marius defeated the invading Germani tribes for which he was called "the third founder of Rome." His life and career were significant in the transformation of Rome from Republic to Empire.
Simple, canoe-shaped silver basket raised on oval foot with reeded edge, the body likewise with a band of reeding at the upper edge, otherwise, plain, with reeded swing handle.

Tall, urn-shaped vase of white stoneware covered with a green variegated glaze and resting on a small, square white stoneware plinth with diaper pattern around, the round foot with overlapping leaves and band of beading at the joint, the lower body with a band of stiff leaf motifs, with a wavescroll pattern below the shoulder and two long curved handles, the elongated neck likewise with band of stiff leaf motifs and beading, the cover with band of leaves and mushroom finial.
