Despite his handicap, he was concerned about the coarse state of English pottery, and this led him to devote many years to creating products of outstanding quality, which in turn helped make his country prosperous]. Alternate translation: When he was little the Englishman Wedgewood was ill and became disabled. He was troubled by the roughness of the ceramics in that country and after several years of effort managed to produce fine wares, much to profit of the country. Some people praised this and said that it was because of his illness that he drew strength from his spirit and was able to achieve this skill.
