A classic large green glazed Hu of the Han dynasty with appliquéd ring handles on each side

Jar (Hu)

Han dynasty (206 BC-AD 200), About 100 BC

The painted and the green glazed Hu are burial pieces that carried wine or other liquids into the afterlife for the deceased to use. The ring handles modeled in clay on the sides of this Hu mimic an earlier bronze prototype.
