In this photograph, a black belt with a silver buckle forms a loop on the surface. The loop of the belt is filled with jet black chunks of coal, some is shiny and some is matte black, the same color as the belt itself. The belt has a groove in the center and is clearly well-worn. It has a crease on the setting where it’s usually secured, which is three spots from where it is buckled in the photograph. Beyond the coal and belt, the photo has very little depth since the background is white with no distinguishing features.

River ice breaking up

A tightly cropped black and white photographic image of neatly stacked sandbags surrounding the Giulio Cesare statue in Rome. The title of the print is rendered in letterpress in an old-style seraph typeface and spaced at between ¾-1" below the image, and centered.

This black and white photograph represents darkly colored dried kelp sitting on light colored sand.
