Covered oviform footed vase of creamware covered with variegated green glaze in imitation of granite, with gilt "Sibyl" finial in the form of a draped, seated female figure, with right leg crossed over left and left hand resting on right knee, the vase mounted on small, square basalt base
Oval blue jasper plaque with white relief of Euterpe, broken in several pieces. The modelling of Euterpe is attributed to John Flaxman Jr in around 1778. Wedgwood owned some muses figures which were created by Bouchardon from 1770. However it was not until 1777 that he decided to produce them so he requested Bentley to commission Flaxman to produce some more to complete the set.
