Xu Beihong was a famous twentieth century Chinese artist. He was trained in Western art in Europe from 1919 to 1925. After returning to China, he worked as the president of the Beijing Academy of Arts, president of the Chinese Academy of Arts, and chairman of the Chinese Artists Association. Xu Beihong excelled in Western-style painting. He is especially well-known for paintings of horses.
