At the Peace of Posen on December 11, 1806, Friedrich August joined the Rheinbund, which was founded by Emperor Napoleon of France on July 17, 1806. At the same time, Napoleon made Friedrich August King of Saxony. After the Battle of Leipzig in 1813, at which Friedrich August fought alongside the French and lost, he was captured and imprisoned in Friedrichsfelde near Berlin.
