A black and white photograph featuring a dirt road leading up to a steel mill in the background. The steel mill is the Ensley Works steel plant in Birmingham, Alabama. To the left of the dirt road is single story smaller houses, with some larger structures to the end of the road, and one on the right side of the road as well. Power poles also line the road on the left side, leading up to the steel plant. The furnaces of the plant are wider towards the base with much thinner chimneys on the top.

To the left the two women sit against a striped fabric, between them a small bucket filled with flowers is placed on a wooden crate. Both are resting one elbow on a different crate.
