From an elevated perspective, likely looking out of a window on an upper floor, view along a street adjacent to one of Amsterdam's canals. A barge on the water. Pedestrians and bicyclists, as well, as a car are moving on the street. The sun is reflecting off the cobblestone and water.

In the middle of the composition a barrel of grapes spills toward the viewer. In the right foreground a brown-robed monk raises a weapon topped with a cross, preparing to strike a male on the ground in front of him. Others have already been struck, and more figures flee into the right background. To the left of the image monks gather to listen to a white-robed bishop holding a crozier. Outside the framing lines of the image, the artist tested colors and brushstrokes in all four margins.
