Oval basalt medallion with portrait of David Beatty, 1st Earl Beatty (1871-1936) born in Nantwich Stapeley he grew to become a important Royal Navy officer fighting in the Madhist war and the Boxer Rebellion and later becoming the commander of the 1st Battlecruiser Squadron at the Battle of Jutland in 1916. He was awarded many high ranking medals and became a Member of the Order of Merit and given the title of Earl  Beatty in 1919.
