Cup and Saucer

This cup retains a traditional Chinese form, but the decoration suggests that it was possibly intended for export. The relief decorations of fruit sprays and delicate floral branches on the cup and saucer were shaped by hand and then applied to the exterior surface.

Large, highly detailed sculpture of four-armed Siva with skull-adorned diadem, holding a double-sided (damaru) drum in upper proper left hand, lower proper left arm embracing the Goddess seated upon his lap. His zebu bull is by his pendent proper right leg. Parvati (as Gauri) with a iguana vahana as well as Ganesha riding his rat (lower left) and Kartikeya riding his peacock (lower right). Face-of-glory (kirtimukha) at mandorla's peack with waved cloud/foliate motifs.
